Kenya receives 11 tonnes of Ebola-response equipment
KEMSA has received PPE, respirators, biosafety cabinets and cold-chain equipment for the current Bundibugyo outbreak.
India delivered the consignment at KEMSA on Monday. It includes 30,000 N95 masks, more than 7,000 impermeable gowns, about 10,000 heavy-duty nitrile gloves, 60 powered respirators, six Class II/III biosafety cabinets and four cold-chain refrigerators.
Why it matters: the supplies directly strengthen staff protection, laboratory safety and storage capacity. They do not change the public-risk assessment, but they improve Kenya's ability to contain the outbreak.
Nairobi should expect rain this week
Kenya Met's October 20-26 outlook includes Nairobi among 46 counties likely to receive rain; no severe-storm warning targets the capital.
The official seven-day forecast starts today and covers the onset of the short rains. Kenya Met separately flagged isolated storms in Kitui, Makueni, Kajiado, Machakos, Laikipia, Samburu, Mandera, Wajir and Marsabit, not Nairobi.
Plan around it: carry rain gear and allow extra travel time, especially where drainage is poor. This is a weekly outlook, so timing and coverage within Nairobi can vary.
Southern Bypass will close overnight this weekend
KeNHA will shut the road from Ole Sereni Interchange to Kikuyu Town from midnight Saturday to 2pm Sunday for the Nairobi Marathon.
The closure runs from 00:00 on October 24 to 14:00 on October 25. KeNHA directs traffic in both directions to Mombasa Road through Uhuru Highway and says police and traffic marshals will guide motorists.
Plan around it: trips between western Nairobi or Kikuyu and Mombasa Road or JKIA will need a different route or extra time on Sunday morning.
India becomes Kenya's second-largest source of imports
Imports from India jumped 92% to Sh282.15 billion between March and August, pushing the UAE into third place.
KNBS data show India supplied Sh135.15 billion more goods than in the same six months of 2025, while imports from the UAE fell 51.1%. Medicines, agricultural commodities, petroleum products and industrial inputs all contribute. EPRA says Indian and European ports have become more important as war disrupts Gulf shipping routes.
Why it matters: Kenya's supply chain is shifting rather than stopping. Local prices for fuel, medicine and factory inputs now depend more on Indian production and shipping, so disruptions there would reach Kenya faster.

Waymo plans to grow from 4,000 to 20,000 robotaxis
The reported plan would expand Waymo's fleet fivefold by the end of 2027 after a $5 billion loan.
Semafor reported that Waymo wants 8,000 cars by the end of 2026 and 20,000 a year later. The Alphabet unit currently operates in 15 US cities and has announced launches in London, Tokyo, Singapore and Canada. Waymo did not immediately confirm the report to Reuters.
Why it matters: autonomous taxis are moving from limited pilots toward fleet scale. A 20,000-car network would test safety, economics and regulation at a level the industry has not yet reached.
