Saturday: Eastleigh recovery turns fatal, rain warning and KRA deadline
A woman's body has been recovered from the Eastleigh collapse as 16 people remain unaccounted for. Nairobi is under a fresh 24-hour rain forecast, importers face digital marine-insurance enforcement from Sunday, and global markets are questioning the cost of the AI boom while Volkswagen pauses electric-Golf development.

Eastleigh search turns into a recovery operation
Rescuers have recovered a woman's body, while 16 people remain unaccounted for on the eighth day after the building collapse.
About 85 percent of the debris has been cleared, but the operation is now focused on reaching the remaining sections and identifying those still missing. Investigations into possible construction and supervision failures are also continuing. Expect the site and nearby access routes to remain controlled while recovery work continues.
Rain is expected across Nairobi through Saturday evening
Kenya Met has put Nairobi among 46 counties expecting rainfall between 9pm Friday and 9pm Saturday.
Plan for a wet Saturday, slower roads and the usual Nairobi drainage nonsense. Leave extra time, protect electronics, and do not drive through water whose depth you cannot see.
KRA's digital marine-insurance rule starts on Sunday
From 1 November, KRA will block import clearances unless a digital marine-cargo insurance certificate has reached iCMS before declaration.
Importers and clearing agents need cover from an IRA-licensed insurer, processed through the Digital Marine Cargo Insurance System and transmitted to KRA. This can delay imported hardware, vehicles and consumer goods if the certificate is missing or the linked systems fail, so businesses with cargo in the pipeline should check now.

AI spending fears trigger a sharp tech sell-off
The Nasdaq 100 fell 3.5 percent as investors questioned whether hyperscalers can earn enough from their enormous AI infrastructure spending.
This is a market repricing, not proof that AI demand has vanished. The concern is simpler: Amazon, Microsoft, Meta and Alphabet are spending at extraordinary levels, and investors want evidence that the returns will justify the bills. That debate will shape cloud pricing, chip demand and the next wave of AI infrastructure.
Volkswagen pauses work on the electric Golf
VW has suspended preliminary ID.Golf development because it cannot currently afford the work, underlining the pressure on legacy carmakers.
VW is cutting costs, facing a large quarterly loss and competing with cheaper, faster-moving Chinese EV makers. The electric Golf's launch is not officially cancelled, but the pause shows how hard it is for established brands to make affordable EVs profitable. Expect more price pressure and more cautious model launches across the car market.
