Kenya confirms its first imported Bundibugyo Ebola case
The patient died in Nairobi; 28 contacts are listed and 23 passengers plus four crew are being traced.
Kenyan authorities confirmed the country's first imported case of Bundibugyo virus disease on October 6. The patient became ill in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, travelled through Uganda and arrived in Nairobi on October 3, then died on October 5 after isolation and supportive care. WHO says 28 family and health-worker contacts have been listed, while 23 passengers and four crew from the flight are being traced. Border screening and surveillance are being reinforced. The virus spreads through direct contact with infected blood, body fluids or contaminated materials. WHO has not advised travel or trade restrictions. For Nairobi residents, the practical step is to follow Ministry of Health updates and respond promptly if public-health teams contact you about a possible exposure.
Runda and Kamae have planned 9am-5pm outages today
Runda Drive, Mimosa, Runda Park, Ruaka Groove and parts of Kamae are on Kenya Power's maintenance list.
Kenya Power's October 7 notice schedules an eight-hour outage in Runda Drive, Mimosa Road, Mimosa Vale, Runda Vale, Runda Park, Ruaka Groove, Imela Homes, Tapaz Lounge, 277 Lounge, Saa Mbaya and adjacent areas. If you are affected, charge devices before 9am and plan alternatives for routers, electric gates, water pumps and refrigerated stock.
Police order targeted road-safety operations after crash surge
Drivers should expect stronger enforcement focused on speeding, unsafe overtaking, fatigue and impaired driving.
The National Police Service announced intensified enforcement and public-awareness operations after a recent rise in serious crashes. Traffic officers have been told to run targeted operations countrywide, although no specific roads or hours were named. Police identified speeding, reckless overtaking, driver fatigue and driving under the influence as leading risks. For motorists and PSV passengers, the immediate implication is closer scrutiny of risky driving. Erratic road behaviour can be reported through 999 or 911.

DeepSeek nears a funding round worth almost $12bn
The Chinese AI lab is reportedly closing an 80bn-yuan round before a possible domestic IPO.
Reuters reports that investor commitments have passed DeepSeek's initial 50bn-yuan target and now exceed 80bn yuan, about $11.9bn. The final round could reach 100bn yuan. Tencent and battery maker CATL are among the biggest backers, but DeepSeek has not commented. The company is also working with Huawei on developer tools for Ascend AI chips. If the round closes, DeepSeek will have far more capital to train models and compete on AI infrastructure while China reduces its reliance on Nvidia. The final amount is not settled.
