Muthaiga, South C and Industrial Area face power cuts tomorrow
Kenya Power has scheduled maintenance from 9am to 5pm on Wednesday, 9 September, in parts of Muthaiga, South C and Road B/Enterprise Road.
The Muthaiga list includes KCA University, Stima Club, Muthaiga Police Station, Mathari National Teaching and Referral Hospital, KMTC, Muthaiga Golf Club and Muthaiga Square. In South C, affected areas include parts of Muhoho Avenue, Mugoya, Fedha, Parkview and Ole Shapara. Road B and Enterprise Road locations include Fargo Courier, Trans Africa Motors and Mukuru kwa Reuben Hospital. Charge devices tonight and confirm backup power before 9am if your work depends on any of these areas.
Your KRA return will be due two months earlier next year
From 2027, individual taxpayers, including the self-employed, must file annual income-tax returns by 30 April instead of 30 June.
The first affected filing is the return for the 2026 income year, due on 30 April 2027. This changes the annual filing date, not the monthly PAYE remittance schedule. Company returns remain under the rule requiring filing by the end of the sixth month after the accounting year. Move your annual reminder forward and gather your P9 and other supporting documents earlier.
Foreign small-business operators now have a defined 90-day window
State House says affected foreign traders have 90 days to regularise immigration, work permits, business registration and licences before strict enforcement.
This materially clarifies the temporary amnesty reported this morning. Government agencies will coordinate the exercise with the relevant embassies, and State House says nobody is authorised to harass or interfere with foreign nationals or their businesses. The window gives compliant businesses more certainty, but it is not permanent permission to operate without the required documents.

Amazon and Qualcomm team up on custom AI chips
The companies will co-develop several generations of Amazon data-centre chips for AI inference, alongside 1.6Tbps optical links.
Inference is the stage where a trained AI model answers users, and it accounts for much of the day-to-day cost of running AI services. The deal gives Amazon another custom-silicon route while Qualcomm expands beyond phones. More competition could improve the cost and energy efficiency of cloud AI over time, but the companies have not announced an immediate AWS price change.
