Kenya Signs Deal for Cheaper Ethiopian Power at $0.15/kWh
Kenya Power locked in Ethiopian electricity at 15 cents per kilowatt-hour, undercutting domestic generation costs.
The Ethiopian Electric Utility and Kenya Power signed a power supply agreement on Friday that lets Kenya buy electricity at approximately $0.15 per kilowatt-hour, plus a $6.3/kW demand charge. The deal aims to expand reliable supply along the shared border, boost bilateral electricity trade, and deepen East African energy integration. Ethiopia's generating capacity has doubled to 9,752 MW in seven years, largely on the strength of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam inaugurated last September. Kenya gets a cheaper, cleaner power source than running its own diesel-heavy thermal plants; Ethiopia gets a dependable revenue stream for its surplus hydro capacity.

Paramount Skydance-WBD $110B Mega-Merger Clears Oregon Hurdle
Oregon dropped its court challenge to the Paramount-Warner Bros. Discovery deal, removing the last legal speed bump before a likely July 22 close.
Oregon Attorney General Dan Rayfield withdrew his motion to delay the merger by 60 days and dropped a demand for White House lobbying records, according to a Friday filing in Multnomah County Court. The $110 billion deal combining Warner Bros. Discovery (HBO, CNN, Warner Bros. studio) with Paramount Skydance (CBS, Paramount, the Skydance film franchise) is now expected to close by July 22. California's attorney general is reportedly preparing an antitrust lawsuit that could still challenge the deal post-close. The merger would create the largest traditional media company by library assets, reshaping streaming, linear TV, and studio production.
