Sunday: Mombasa Road outage, housing project blocked and Ebola PPE warning
Prepare for a daytime power cut on Mombasa Road. A court has voided the Sh5.02 billion Kanduyi housing project, health unions are pressing for Ebola-response PPE, and Nvidia is reportedly circling Reflection AI.

Mombasa Road businesses face a daytime power cut
Supply is due off from 8am to 5pm around Alpha Centre, REREC, Auto Express and the Total station opposite JKIA.
Kenya Power plans to switch off supply today along part of Mombasa Road. Listed customers include Alpha Centre, the REREC offices, Nice & Lovely, Manchester Knit, Viraj Complex, Crown Health, Auto Express, the Total station opposite JKIA and nearby premises. The notice does not close the road, but businesses in the affected zone should charge devices and test backup power before 8am. Kenya Power's telephone contact centre is also due offline until 5am. Email, social channels, *977# and the MyPower app remain available.
Court voids the Sh5.02 billion Kanduyi housing project
The judge found the airstrip land conversion and tender unlawful, and ordered restoration within 45 days.
The Environment and Land Court cancelled the planned 2,034-unit project on 36.95 acres reserved for Kanduyi Airstrip. It found that authorities had not followed the required land-use, environmental and public-participation procedures. The construction contract had already been awarded before a public meeting was held. The ruling stops this Bungoma project, not the national affordable-housing programme or levy. Its wider significance is the compliance risk for other public-land projects where consultation or environmental approval came after key decisions.
Health unions press for Ebola task-force seats and proper PPE
Frontline workers say they should not handle suspected cases without adequate protective equipment and a say in the response plan.
Health-worker unions want representation on the national Ebola task force and say excluding frontline staff weakens preparedness. The government said on Friday that Sh171 million of laboratory equipment and protective gear had started moving to designated high-risk facilities. This is a dispute about readiness, not a report of another case. The immediate test is whether facilities receive the gear, fit-test it and train staff before another suspected patient arrives.

Nvidia is reported to be weighing a Reflection AI takeover
Early talks could move an open-weight coding-model company inside the dominant AI-chip supplier.
Reuters says the Financial Times reported talks ranging from a larger investment to an acquisition or a deal to hire staff and license the technology. Nvidia has already invested $800 million in Reflection AI, which builds software-development agents and launched its Beam open-weight model this week. The talks may still collapse. If a deal happens, Nvidia would gain tighter control over coding-agent software that can be tuned for its hardware, while Reflection's independence as an open-model competitor would shrink. No product or pricing change has been announced.
