Uber to acquire Glovo in Kenya as part of $14.8B Delivery Hero deal
Uber bought Delivery Hero, which owns Glovo, giving it a monopoly on food delivery apps in a market that had two players.
Uber agreed to acquire German food delivery group Delivery Hero for $14.8 billion in cash, a deal that covers 50 markets including Kenya. Delivery Hero owns Glovo, Kenya's biggest food and grocery delivery app, and the acquisition would put both Glovo and Uber Eats under single ownership. For restaurants and customers in Kenya, that means losing the only meaningful delivery alternative. The deal still needs regulatory approval from Kenya's competition authority, and questions about market concentration, pricing power, and rider terms are coming. The broader market should watch how Kenya's Competition Authority handles a deal that eliminates the last real rival in a fast-growing sector.
Seven American aid workers enter 21-day Ebola quarantine at Kenya facility
Seven US humanitarian workers who were in DRC are under medical observation at Laikipia Air Base while Americans under travel ban are barred entry.
Seven American aid workers who were fighting the Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo are now in 21-day medical observation at a US-run isolation facility at Laikipia Air Base in Nanyuki, Kenya. They were flown out after the US imposed travel restrictions from Ebola-affected areas. The facility has been controversial since its inception -- a Kenyan court suspended it in May, but the government pushed ahead anyway. None of the seven are showing symptoms, and the quarantine is precautionary. The practical consequence for Kenya: the facility is operational and receiving patients, which normalizes a arrangement that courts and local communities have challenged.

GPU financiers place first $400M bet on inference chips as collateral
General Finance secured a $400M loan from Upper90 using SambaNova inference chips as collateral, the first major deal to finance AI inference hardware instead of training GPUs.
General Compute, an AI inference cloud startup, landed a $400 million loan from investment firm Upper90 using SambaNova inference chips as the collateral. Previous chip-backed loans were always secured against Nvidia GPUs used for training models. This is the first time inference-specific hardware -- chips built to run already-trained models efficiently -- has been treated as a financeable asset class. It signals that the AI market is maturing beyond the training land-grab into the deployment phase, where inference demand overtakes training. For anyone running AI workloads, this means financing options for inference infrastructure are expanding beyond the Nvidia GPU ecosystem.
Even Microsoft cannot make Windows 11 work well on 8GB of RAM
The Verge tested the $950 Surface Laptop with 8GB RAM and scored it 6/10, concluding Windows 11 simply cannot run well on 8GB anymore.
The Verge reviewed Microsoft's 2026 Surface Laptop 13-inch and found the same great hardware from last year crippled by half the memory. At $950 (up from $900), the entry-level model ships with only 8GB of RAM thanks to the global memory shortage. The verdict is blunt: Windows 11 chokes on 8GB. Apps stutter, multitasking suffers, and even Microsoft's own engineers could not optimize around the constraint. The Snapdragon X Plus processor and battery life are fine, but the RAM ceiling drags everything down. For anyone buying a Windows laptop right now, 8GB is a hard pass. Look for 16GB or at minimum a model with upgradeable RAM.
