High Court Bars Kajiado County from Amboseli, Summons Governor Lenku for Contempt
Court blocks Kajiado County from taking over Amboseli National Park and orders Governor Lenku to appear for contempt on July 24 after he allegedly defied earlier orders.
Justice Gregory Mutai certified as urgent a motion dated July 9 and restrained Kajiado County, its governor, and anyone acting on the county's behalf from entering, managing, or interfering with the park. The contempt application stems from an ongoing constitutional petition challenging the legality of transferring Amboseli's management from KWS to the county government. The revenue-sharing dispute has been escalating since March when an e-Citizen joint collection deal was agreed but never implemented. Lenku accused KWS of defying President Ruto's directive on the split, but the court is now asking why his administration pushed ahead regardless. The hearing date is July 24.
Government Moves to Suspend Sh6.9tn Public Debt Case as AG Cites Forensic Audit
The Attorney General has asked the High Court to halt Omtatah's petition challenging management of Sh6.9 trillion in public debt, arguing the issues are covered by an ongoing forensic audit of Eurobond proceeds.
The application seeks to suspend proceedings in a petition by Busia Senator Okiya Omtatah and other petitioners who want the court to declare that public debt management, including Eurobond proceeds, violated the Constitution. The petition also seeks to hold more than 20 respondents personally liable, including former President Uhuru Kenyatta. The AG argues the forensic audit by the Auditor General already covers the same ground. The application is supported by Treasury CS John Mbadi and comes weeks after the High Court dismissed the AG's preliminary objection on June 25, clearing the way for the substantive case.
Court of Appeal Rules State CEOs Have No Automatic Right to Contract Renewal

In a judgment delivered July 10, the appellate court upheld an earlier Employment and Labour Relations Court ruling on former Kenya Re CEO Jadiah Mwarania. The board wanted a third five-year term citing profitability and institutional memory, but Treasury CS John Mbadi directed a competitive recruitment process with only temporary one-year extensions for transition. Mwarania accepted two consecutive one-year extensions without objection, then challenged the non-renewal. The court ruled he voluntarily accepted the terms and could not later claim entitlement to a fresh five-year term, affirming that fixed-term contracts do not carry automatic renewal rights.

Waze Gets Gemini AI Makeover with Conversational Reporting, Motorcycle Mode, and Less Chatty Option
Google is embedding Gemini into Waze with natural language incident reporting, dedicated motorcycle navigation, and a Less Chatty mode that cuts alert frequency.
The biggest update lets drivers report hazards, police, and road conditions by speaking naturally rather than tapping through menus. Gemini handles the parsing and posts the report. Waze is also adding a dedicated Motorcycle mode that routes around potholes and other two-wheel hazards, launching initially in Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Malaysia, Mexico, Peru, and the Philippines. A Less Chatty mode reduces non-critical alerts for drivers who find the current cadence too noisy.
