Afternoon: Nurses return, Westlands exit stays open and tighter travel and import rules
Five fresh developments since lunch: nurses have signed a return-to-work deal; MOJA says Westlands Exit is open; CA will validate proposed ICT-import permit fees; JKIA is enforcing stricter baggage rules; and Suno has launched its first label-backed AI-music models.

Nurses call off strike and return within 24 hours
KNUNM and governors signed the deal that was still pending at lunchtime. Nurses must resume immediately or within 24 hours.
The union ended the 43-day strike on 9 September after signing a return-to-work formula with the Council of Governors. Public-hospital services should start rebuilding from Wednesday evening, but expect an uneven restart as facilities restore rosters. The agreement gives both sides 45 days to finish talks on the 2017 CBA and a model nursing career guideline. Counties also committed to place UHC staff on permanent and pensionable terms from 1 July 2026, while the national government will cover gratuity from two earlier contracts.
Westlands Expressway exit remains open
MOJA says the works are past the toll exit. You can still leave the Expressway at Westlands, though the lower A8 corridor remains constrained.
MOJA issued the clarification on 9 September after its earlier notice caused confusion. Maintenance continues past the exit until 5pm on 20 September. Traffic leaving at Westlands still joins the lower A8 on Waiyaki Way. A separate partial closure on the Nakuru-bound carriageway between Karuna Close and Westlands Roundabout runs until 25 September. For the evening commute, check live traffic before choosing the Expressway or lower Waiyaki Way.
CA takes proposed ICT-import fees to a 23 September forum
The Sh5,000 personal and Sh15,000 commercial permit fees are proposals, not charges already in force.
The Communications Authority says the fee would apply to each import permit submitted through the National Electronic Single Window System, not to every device in a shipment. It will present its revised proposal for validation on 23 September after reviewing public comments. If approved, the flat fee could weigh most heavily on one-off personal or small commercial shipments that require a CA permit. If you are importing phones, laptops or networking gear, wait for the final decision before adding this charge to your landed-cost calculation.
JKIA starts stricter baggage handling
Do not attach your bag to another passenger's allowance. KAA says mismatched baggage may be returned at your cost.
KAA has begun enforcing rules that separate passenger baggage from cargo. Airlines must identify each item correctly, while cargo must move through designated terminals. The government is also rolling out advanced passenger registration and centralised check-in and screening systems, but no immediate queue-time improvement is promised. The practical rule is simple: make sure each bag is tagged to the traveller carrying it, and use the cargo channel for goods that exceed normal airline baggage limits.

Suno launches its first label-backed AI music models
Suno v6 was developed with Warner, BMG and Believe as AI music shifts toward licensed training and revenue sharing.
Suno launched v6, v6-Wild and the free v6-mini on 9 September. The new tools can edit one part of a generated song in plain language, combine elements from several tracks and create music from text, audio, images or video. Suno says future products based on individual artists will require artists to opt in and will pay them. That is the important part: major labels are testing a licensing model for generative music instead of relying only on copyright lawsuits.
