Monday: November flood risk, Eastleigh search and road deadline
KMD expects above-average rain across more than 40 counties, including Nairobi. The Eastleigh collapse search remains active on day 10, the Rironi–Naivasha opening has moved to early December, and China is pushing ahead in both embodied AI and electric-vehicle exports.

KMD warns November will be wetter than normal
KMD expects above-average rainfall in November across more than 40 counties, including Nairobi, with heightened flood, drainage and transport risk.
After the weekend flooding, this is the broader warning to plan around. KMD says flash floods, landslides and infrastructure damage are possible, while overwhelmed drainage can cause traffic and service disruptions. Allow more time, avoid flooded roads and watch local alerts, especially around low-lying areas and routes near rivers.
Eastleigh collapse search enters day 10
The Eastleigh building-collapse search remains active, with teams working through the remaining debris while 16 people are still reported missing.
Three excavators are operating in a confined site as responders try to reach the basement without causing a further collapse. Families remain camped nearby, and the DCI is probing what caused the building to fail. Expect controlled access around the Ninth Street site while the operation continues.
Rironi–Naivasha opening slips to early December
The Rironi–Naivasha highway opening has moved from the October target to early December.
Construction and bottlenecks will continue through November, so do not plan on the promised dual carriageway easing travel between Nairobi, Naivasha and the west until the revised date is actually met. Works will also continue around the Naivasha junction.

China's robotics race is moving from hardware to AI
Chinese robotics firms are shifting the contest from cheap hardware to AI that lets robots learn unfamiliar physical tasks.
Reuters reports that Chinese embodied-AI companies raised $13 billion in the first half of 2026, five times the previous year's figure. The stakes are factories, logistics and eventually service work. Whoever links low-cost manufacturing with useful robot intelligence could reshape global automation.
BYD's overseas EV push keeps accelerating
BYD's October sales rose 11% year on year, while overseas shipments more than doubled to 170,194 vehicles.
BYD sold 490,168 vehicles in October, its sixth straight month of annual sales growth, even as China's domestic market remains fiercely competitive. The export surge means more pressure on established carmakers and a wider flow of Chinese EVs into overseas markets. Kenya's local prices and model availability will still depend on distributors and import rules.
