Friday: Oil jumps before fuel review, Wajir Ebola test is negative
Brent jumped 4.1% to $104.28 ahead of Kenya's October 14 fuel-price and tax deadline. A Wajir Ebola alert tested negative, Muthaiga North and Utalii face an eight-hour outage, Safaricom launched managed branch networking, and Google introduced a workplace AI agent.

A 4% oil jump raises the stakes for Tuesday's fuel review
Brent closed at $104.28, while Kenya's current pump-price period and temporary 8% fuel VAT both end on October 14.
Brent rose $4.08 on Thursday as attacks on Gulf shipping and a US hurricane disrupted supply. Kenya imports all its refined fuel, so sustained wholesale pressure can feed into EPRA's next prices. The VAT cut from 16% to 8% also expires Tuesday unless the government extends it. A pump increase is not certain: EPRA uses product import costs and the state can extend tax relief or compensation. Still, households and businesses should leave more room in next week's transport and delivery budgets.
Suspected Wajir Ebola case returns a preliminary negative result
The result keeps Kenya at one confirmed imported case; contact tracing and screening continue.
Wajir County said a 20-year-old man under assessment at Habaswein tested negative in preliminary testing by the National Public Health Virology Laboratory. He had travelled from the Democratic Republic of Congo through Uganda, matching a high-risk travel pattern. This is reassuring but does not end national surveillance after the first imported case and death in Nairobi. Normal movement can continue; use Health Ministry alerts and call 719 if you have a relevant exposure rather than relying on forwarded claims.
Friday outage covers Muthaiga North and Utalii
Kenya Power plans to cut supply from 9am to 5pm at offices, hospitals, schools and homes in the two zones.
The Muthaiga list includes AAR Hospital, Muthaiga North, Balozi, Coffee Garden, DCI, KFS and Athi Water headquarters. Utalii includes Traffic Headquarters, KCA University, part of Utalii Hotel, Mathari Hospital, Muthaiga Police, KMTC Mathari and Muthaiga Golf Club. This is a different set from Thursday's Muthaiga Road interruption. Charge devices early and arrange backup for routers, access systems and medical or refrigerated equipment.
Safaricom offers automatic link failover for multi-branch firms
The managed SD-WAN service joins fibre, 4G, 5G and private links under one dashboard, with branch plans from Sh9,500 a month.
The Huawei-powered service can shift traffic to a backup connection when a primary link fails, prioritize tills or cloud apps, and apply security controls across sites. Safaricom supplies and manages the equipment on 12-, 24- or 36-month contracts. The reported Sh9,500 entry price is per branch on a 36-month term, and connectivity is billed separately. Retailers, clinics and other multi-site businesses should compare the full link cost and long contract against running their own failover.

Google turns Gemini into a workplace agent
The new agent can work across Gmail, Docs, Sheets and Calendar, with persistent coworker agents that have their own accounts.
Google says the agent can plan tasks, call business tools, create content and code, and return finished work. It also supports Microsoft 365 and Slack and can choose between Gemini and Anthropic models. Finance and legal versions are in preview. This is a bigger change than another chatbot: companies are being asked to let software act inside core systems. Admins should start with narrow permissions, human approval for messages or payments, and complete audit logs.
