Sunday: Ebola cases reach seven, Parklands power cut today
Ebola cases rise to seven but remain within quarantine, Parklands and eastern Nairobi face Sunday outages, Moi Avenue cleanup continues, a car-crime sweep exposes identity fraud, and major websites block AI agents.
Kenya/Nairobi
Kenya's Ebola caseload rises from three to seven
Four more quarantined contacts tested positive, including three health workers; officials still report no community transmission.
The new patients include three health workers who treated the first patient on 3 and 4 October and a male relative of the deceased first patient. All four were in quarantine before symptoms and diagnosis. Health teams have traced and quarantined 128 of 130 listed contacts. The Ministry says public risk remains low and has imposed no travel, trade or gathering restrictions. Anyone who may have been exposed or develops symptoms should call the Ministry of Health on 719 for guidance.
Parklands and eastern Nairobi face Sunday power cuts
Parklands and Komarock are scheduled off from 9am to 5pm; Ruai, Utawala and nearby areas from 7am to 5pm.
The Parklands notice covers 4th Parklands, Masari Road, Kusi Lane, Ngao Road, Suswa Road, Wangapala Road, KPLC Staff Quarters, Diamond 1 and 2, Presidential Escort and adjacent customers. Komarock, parts of Kayole and Mihango are also listed for 9am to 5pm. Ruai, Kamulu, Utawala, Njiru and Chokaa are listed for 7am to 5pm. Charge devices before morning and plan backup power or mobile data where needed.
Moi Avenue demolition collapse leaves four injured
All 24 workers were accounted for and no deaths were reported; the site remains cordoned for debris clearing and safety checks.
The former Club Avenida building collapsed during planned demolition on Friday night. Three injured workers were taken to Kenyatta National Hospital. Emergency search operations ended early Saturday, and Nairobi County said engineers will assess structural safety and investigate whether the work had proper approval and supervision before activity resumes. Anyone heading into the central business district should avoid the immediate Moi Avenue site and allow for local access controls.
Vehicle crackdown finds stolen and mismatched identities
A UK-stolen Land Rover and two vehicles with conflicting records were found during a nationwide DCI and INTERPOL operation.
Operation Carback II physically inspected more than 1,800 vehicles and checked over 260,000 against INTERPOL records. Detectives found the stolen Land Rover at a Northern Bypass yard, a Mercedes whose registration matched a Suzuki, and a forklift recorded as a crawler with an obliterated chassis number. For used-car buyers, a number plate and logbook are not enough. Confirm the chassis number, NTSA ownership record and import or clearance trail before paying.
Tech
Popular websites are blocking AI agents
Airlines, banks, retailers and review sites are restricting AI agents over security, bot controls and licensing.
The Verge reports that Delta will not let agents book tickets, JPMorgan Chase and Charles Schwab block account access, Yelp requires data licensing, and Amazon is fighting AI shopping agents in court. Shopify and some retailers are working with agents. The practical effect is simple: a failed booking, banking or shopping task may be caused by the website's policy rather than the AI model. Expect more manual handoffs and human-verification steps.
