Tuesday: Westlands water cut, Parklands outage and an Ebola milestone
Westlands and Parklands face overlapping water and electricity interruptions today. Kenya released its first Ebola contacts from quarantine. Monday's fuel march ended in arrests, while Anthropic's IPO filing and Volkswagen's China-software proposal are the global stories worth carrying.

Westlands water cut runs through Thursday; Parklands power cut today
Water is off across much of western Nairobi, while parts of Parklands also face a 9am-5pm electricity interruption.
Nairobi Water shut the NCT-Kigoro-Gigiri-Kabete pipeline at 11:59pm Monday for emergency repairs scheduled through 11:59pm Thursday. Affected places include Upper Brookside, Brookside Gardens, Westlands Road, Muthithi Road, Parklands, Highridge, Lavington, Kilimani, Lang'ata and Karen. Separate Kenya Power maintenance will cut electricity on Parklands Road, Muthithi Road, Mogotio Road and Wambugu Road from 9am to 5pm today. Ngong Road and Dagoretti Corner are scheduled from 7am to 5pm. Building tanks may delay the water impact, so conserve what is available and charge devices early.
Twenty contacts complete 21 days without Ebola symptoms
Kenya released its first group from quarantine Monday; 98 contacts remain under monitoring.
Kenya's case total remains nine: two deaths and seven patients stable in treatment. The remaining contacts are due for staggered release in four groups beginning November 3 if they stay symptom-free. This supports the view that the first exposure chain is being contained, but health officials say monitoring is still active.
Fuel-price protest ends in arrests and CBD clashes
Police and demonstrators fought running battles Monday on Moi Avenue and Kimathi Street.
Several protesters were taken into custody during the march over fuel prices and the cost of living. Nairobi pump prices remain Sh226.96 for petrol, Sh227.76 for diesel and Sh219.87 for kerosene. Monday's CBD disruption has passed, but any follow-up action would put Kimathi Street and Moi Avenue back on the watch list.

Anthropic files for what could be the largest IPO yet
Claude's maker plans to list on Nasdaq as ANT; the share count and price are not set.
Anthropic's filing reports more than $16 billion in first-half revenue and an $80.7 billion net loss, including a $72.4 billion one-time accounting charge. Reports place a possible market debut next month, but the final valuation and amount to be raised remain unknown. The filing gives investors their first detailed look at the economics and governance of a frontier-model company.
Volkswagen may bring Xpeng-built software architecture to Europe
A reported proposal would cover roughly three quarters of future VW, Skoda and Cupra models.
Volkswagen's China Electronic Architecture was developed with Xpeng for Chinese-market vehicles. Extending it to Europe could sideline parts of VW's $5.8 billion Rivian partnership. Volkswagen declined to comment, so this is a proposal, not a final product plan. The broader shift is striking: Chinese vehicle software may become a core export, not only Chinese cars.
