Morning: Kenya bonds, Nairobi rail, cyber defence and Camry recall
Kenya’s borrowing demand and Nairobi’s transport plans lead, alongside fresh cyber defence tools and a Toyota safety recall.

Kenya bond demand reaches Sh460.4bn against Sh150bn offer
Investors offered more than three times the amount Kenya sought through reopened infrastructure bonds.
Investors submitted Sh460.4 billion in bids for three reopened infrastructure bonds against a Sh150 billion target, according to reporting on the Central Bank of Kenya auction. The strong demand gives the Treasury room to raise funds, but it does not remove the cost of servicing public debt. Successful bidders are due to obtain payment details through the CBK DhowCSD Investor Portal on 14 August. Businesses watching government borrowing should expect continued competition for domestic liquidity and close attention to future auction yields.
Nairobi approves first phase of a two line metro plan
Nairobi County has approved a 30 kilometre first phase combining orbital and eastern routes.
Nairobi County has approved the first phase of its Metropolitan Mass Rapid Transit System, covering a 10 kilometre orbital line and a 20 kilometre route towards eastern Nairobi. The plan is intended to create a higher capacity alternative to road traffic, with an underground section in the central business district and elevated infrastructure elsewhere. Approval is not the same as construction funding or a final delivery schedule. Operators and property owners should treat this as a planning signal while waiting for procurement, financing and environmental details.
Kenya keeps July fuel prices unchanged through 14 August
Nairobi motorists are still paying the current price cap until the next EPRA review.
The current fuel price cycle runs from 15 July to 14 August 2026, with no change reported for the period. In Nairobi, the reported maximum prices are Sh214.03 per litre for super petrol, Sh222.86 for diesel and Sh191.38 for kerosene. The next review matters for transporters, delivery firms and households because even a small adjustment feeds quickly into fares and operating costs. Motorists should use the official EPRA schedule rather than informal pump price lists when checking the applicable cap.
Treasury publishes Kenya’s 2026 sustainability linked framework
Kenya has published a framework for raising finance linked to sustainability targets.
The National Treasury has published Kenya’s Sovereign Sustainability Linked Financing Framework 2026. The document sets the basis for financing instruments whose terms can be connected to defined sustainability performance targets and reporting commitments. For investors, the important practical questions are which targets will be selected, how performance will be measured and what happens if targets are missed. For companies bidding on public work, the framework signals that financing and project reporting may increasingly include environmental and social performance data alongside conventional financial information.

Nebius reports sharp second quarter growth as AI demand rises
AI cloud provider Nebius reported a large year on year revenue increase in its second quarter results.
Nebius reported second quarter 2026 revenue of $105.1 million, up from $23.1 million a year earlier, as customers sought access to AI computing capacity. The company’s results also show the cost of expansion, with adjusted EBITDA still negative for the quarter. The numbers are useful for technology buyers because they underline the trade off in AI infrastructure: demand is growing quickly, but providers must spend heavily on capacity before margins mature. Customers should compare availability, pricing and contractual commitments rather than assume every new GPU cloud is interchangeable.
OpenAI puts Daybreak cyber models on Amazon Bedrock
Eligible AWS customers can now access OpenAI’s specialised defensive cyber models through Bedrock.
OpenAI and AWS have made two specialised cybersecurity models available to eligible customers through Amazon Bedrock. Daybreak Red provides access to GPT 5.6 Cyber, while Daybreak Blue is configured for defensive security work with safeguards intended to limit misuse. The release gives security teams another managed route for vulnerability discovery and remediation workflows, but access controls remain important. Organisations should confirm data handling, logging, human approval and model output review before connecting the service to production systems or automated response tools.
