Westlands and Ngara face an eight-hour power cut
Listed roads and offices lose supply from 9am to 5pm today, including Muthithi Road, Mpaka Road and Woodvale Grove.
Kenya Power's notice issued on October 12 covers parts of Kolobot Road, Taarifu Road, Ojijo Road, Westlands Hill, Chiromo Road, Muthithi Road, Mpaka Road and Woodvale Grove. ABC Bank, Paramount Plaza and adjacent customers are also listed. Charge devices and confirm backup internet before 9am. Because this is a feeder-based notice, an address nearby can stay on while the next building goes off.
Nairobi's flood plan still has large gaps
The county has identified 227 hotspots and says river clearance is 80%, but only 26 of 61 priority drainage sites are complete.
At an October 12 preparedness meeting, Nairobi asked for Sh5.17 billion for flood prevention and emergency response. It said just 20% of critical equipment was available, while less than a quarter of contractors for some recent works had reported to site. A drill tested moving Mombasa Road traffic onto the Expressway without tolls if flooding closes roads. That is a contingency, not a free-use arrangement today. The first sustained heavy rain will be the real test, especially near rivers and known drainage choke points.
September bank lending jumps to a five-year record
Banks extended Sh99.4 billion as private-sector credit growth reached 10.6% and average loan rates fell to 14.4%.
CBK data published on October 12 show September beat the previous monthly lending-flow record of Sh88.8 billion set in May. The average commercial bank loan rate fell from 17.2% in November 2025 to 14.4% in September. Credit is moving again, but 14.4% is a market average, not a promise to every borrower. Compare the effective annual cost, fees and collateral terms before treating the lower average as a cheap loan.

Meta launches Muse Wonder for long-running AI agents
The standard model is live through Meta's API and Muse Code; the stronger Full version requires a Muse Code subscription.
Meta launched both models on October 12 with a one-million-token context window, computer use, long-running task support and memory across conversations. Muse Wonder costs $4 per million input tokens and $20 per million output tokens through the API. Muse Wonder Full is available on the $50 and $200 monthly Muse Code plans. Meta calls them frontier models and reports strong benchmark results, but most comparisons still come from Meta. These are closed models, not downloadable Llama-style releases.
