Karen, Spring Valley and Enterprise Road outages run to 5pm
Kenya Power's planned maintenance is cutting supply today in parts of Hardy and Karen, Spring Valley, and Bamburi and Enterprise Road from 9am to 5pm.
Affected areas include Safe Park Estate, Mutty Court and Kipevu Road; Shell Kerarapon; Peponi Road between General Mathenge Junction and Thigiri Ridge Road Junction; Peponi Gardens and part of Spring Valley Road; and Bamburi Road and part of Enterprise Road. Charge devices and plan backup power or connectivity for the rest of the afternoon. On Friday, Kenya Power also plans 9am to 5pm cuts in parts of Donholm, Jacaranda and Kayole Spine Road, plus Runda and Upper Hill.
Large Zambia maize contract could ease Kenya's supply gap
Zambia's Food Reserve Agency has contracted Kenya's Baita Trading to buy 540,000 tonnes of Grade A, non-GMO white maize.
The grain is due in six batches: five shipments of 100,000 tonnes at three-month intervals, followed by 40,000 tonnes. The scale could help steady maize and unga supply as Kenya faces shortages, but this is a commercial supply contract, not a retail price cut. Any relief will depend on the shipments arriving, transport and import costs, and how much grain reaches millers.
Rironi-Naivasha highway now targeted to open October 30
Transport CS Davis Chirchir says the upgraded Rironi-Naivasha section should be fully dualled and open to traffic by October 30.
The target gives motorists on the Nairobi-Nakuru corridor a near-term date after persistent escarpment bottlenecks. Treat it as a target, since an earlier contractor projection pointed to December. Work will continue beyond Naivasha, and the route is intended to become a toll road. Reports cite proposed rates of Sh8 per kilometre from Rironi to Naivasha and Sh8.50 from Naivasha to Mau Summit, but the final charges still need formal confirmation.
Police told to protect foreign nationals amid Nairobi assaults
The government says immigration checks are for state agencies, not private groups, after assault and extortion reports in Nairobi.
Assistant county commissioners have been told to protect documented foreigners and people registering under the 90-day compliance window. Police say four suspects were arrested after Chinese traders in Nyamakima were allegedly asked for Sh200,000 to Sh300,000. Separate assaults were reported in Kawangware and Njiru. Residents and traders should not confront people or demand documents; report suspected violations to the authorities.

Memory shortage pushes Chinese AI-chip prices up 20% to 50%
Huawei, Cambricon and other Chinese AI-chip makers are raising quoted prices as advanced memory remains scarce.
Reuters reports that Huawei's Ascend 950DT quote is now above 250,000 yuan, 20% to 50% more than two months ago, while Cambricon's planned 690 is up 20% to 30%. High-bandwidth memory is the bottleneck. For businesses planning AI infrastructure, this points to tight supply and higher hardware costs, including for alternatives to Nvidia.
