Westlands Expressway diversion starts at 8pm tonight
From 8pm on 8 September until 5pm on 20 September, motorists exiting at Westlands must join the lower A8/Waiyaki Way while the overpass deck is repaired.
The Expressway remains open, but traffic will be redirected immediately after the Westlands exit. Expect slower merging around Waiyaki Way, especially during the evening peak. Allow extra time and follow the marshals stationed at the affected section.
Doctors give the government seven days to end the nurses’ strike
KMPDU says doctors will join the nurses’ walkout if the six-week dispute is not resolved within seven days, raising the risk of a much wider public-hospital shutdown.
The nurses’ strike entered its 43rd day on Tuesday. KMPDU says the walkout is already severely disrupting care, but doctors are not on strike today. Before a non-emergency public-hospital visit, confirm that the clinic or service is operating. Do not delay emergency care.
Four new laws change county-fund, aviation and trust rules
President Ruto signed four laws on county finance, air-passenger charges, trusts and population planning. The aviation change does not raise the charge paid by travellers.
The public-finance amendment is meant to remove duplicate procedures around additional county allocations. The air-passenger amendment changes how the existing charge is remitted and shared; the current rates remain KSh600 for domestic departures and US$50 for international departures. The Trust Administration law sets clearer rules for trustees and beneficiaries, while the population law makes the National Council for Population and Development a statutory body. Practical effects will depend on commencement provisions and agency implementation.
Kenya proposes a dedicated licence for commercial data centres
The Communications Authority wants co-location data centres moved from the generic NFP Tier 2 category into a standalone licence. It is not yet in force, and comments are open for 30 days.
The proposal covers co-location facilities and related support services. CA says the goal is clearer oversight and a framework better suited to cloud infrastructure. It could affect compliance costs and investment decisions for data-centre operators, cloud providers, banks, fintechs and telecom firms. Ordinary internet users face no immediate service or price change.

China’s carmakers are pushing harder into export markets
Chinese passenger-vehicle exports rose 77.5% year on year to 894,000 in August, while domestic sales fell 23.7%.
Exports of electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles grew 154.7%, with BYD and Geely setting fresh export records. The overseas push should intensify price and feature competition in emerging markets. For a Kenyan buyer, that is a market signal rather than an immediate discount: duty, distributor support, spare parts, servicing and resale value still determine the real ownership cost.
