Science Minister Bae Gyeong-hoon said South Korea will launch a sovereign AI model specializing in cybersecurity by the end of 2026. Researcher Nightmare Eclipse published LegacyHive, a proof-of-concept exploit for an unpatched privilege escalation vulnerability in the Windows User Profile Service (ProfSvc). The exploit works on fully updated Windows machines because Microsoft did not fix it in the July 2026 Patch Tuesday update, which itself patched a record 622 CVEs. LegacyHive lets an attacker load other users' registry hives, including administrator accounts, potentially enabling lateral movement and privilege escalation. Hyundai Motor Group and SK On's 50/50 joint venture began mass production at their $5 billion battery cell plant in Bartow County, Georgia. The facility has a 35 GWh annual capacity, enough to supply batteries for up to 300,000 electric vehicles per year, feeding directly into Hyundai's nearby Metaplant America in Savannah. The plant was first announced in 2022 as part of a $12.6 billion Hyundai EV manufacturing bet in Georgia. Local production matters because it qualifies vehicles for US EV tax credits under the Inflation Reduction Act's sourcing rules and reduces the supply-chain risk of importing cells from Asia. For fleet operators, the economics are straightforward: converting an existing diesel truck chassis to electric costs about the same as rebuilding a diesel engine but eliminates fuel and maintenance costs over the vehicle's remaining life.
